Coedwig Exhibition at Oriel Myrddin

Coedwig (Forest) is the latest show at Oriel Myrddin http://www.orielmyrddingallery.co.uk/ in Carmarthen. This is their yearly selected winter show with a range of arts and crafts for sale. Newport Collective's Philippa Sibert http://www.cardiganopenstudios.co.uk/philippasibert.html is showing a selection of paintings, monoprints and mixed media works which all reflect the chosen theme beautifully. I love the work that you find at this gallery and one of the other makers selected is one I have met at other events over the past two years and is a favourite of mine, Eve O'Neil http://www.needlefeltart.co.uk/. She makes delightful needle felted animals and birds which are all exquistely created and here they are displayed in an old medical or museum case which adds to their charm. The hedgerow and rustic basketmaker Susie Vaughan http://www.susievaughan.co.uk/ has some of her latest creations included too and I was very curious as to how she constructed the bases of two of them...a weaving puzzle. Lots of the work is actually very affordable and I would recommend a visit before you find yourself dizzy with distraction in the big chainstores. Lots of thoughtful care and soul in some handmade wares can be found at this treasure box of a show.

Wanted New Members for Newport Collective

We are looking for new members to join the Collective. The group is a a mix of fine artists and crafts people who all live in and around Pembrokeshire. The shop is situated on the main road through Newport opposite Cnapan Restaurant. At present we are looking for new members who want to sell their work. If you would like to apply you need to bring you and some examples of your work to a meeting; to find out when the next one is ring us on 01239 821056. You can be a member on a six month trial basis and during that time you will be expected to sit in the shop once every 19 working days, attend meetings and to help out with the general running and upkeep of the shop.

Make and take home your own witches egg hat, in a craft workshop for ages 7 and upwards.

Make original objects, using traditional craft technique from pure wools, linens and silks. Eco-friendly and sustainable natural fibres, and soaps provided.

Cost £5 per person to make a hat in one hour. Extra projects can be arranged and may incur an extra material cost.

Glastonbury 2010

Mid-summer sees me and my crew hauling a truck load of sculptures and some more down the motorway to Worthy Farm, Pilton home of Glastonbury Festival. For some years I have been working for the Greencrafts Field and Avalon installing large willow sculptures. This year we worked for the second time in the BBC backstage garden where we installed a pair of revellers waving their wickered hands in the air. I was deeply gutted to receive photos of Stevie Womder being interviewed next to one of them but to not have it in the shot, but likewise very moved to think he was so close to them. One of my all time heros. We were also asked by Liz Elliot (Greenfields Co Ordinator) if we could possibly burn a sculpture for the opening in the Kings Meadow on the Wednesday night. One of my old sculptures was duly stuffed and stretched to oblige and went up with a woosh. In the Craftfield we installed an archway that was illuminted at night with LED light and my old Devil made an appearance below a beautiful Angel. Down in Avalon where my two new Wicked Foxes with their banjo and fiddle making their debut before taking to the road to CambridgeFolk who have commissioned them. Plus there where a couple of smaller things out and about..a big ball in Cafe Tango and a figure in the garden at the railway line crossroads. Thanks to all who helped and thanks to whoever sorted the weather that was very good.

The Nest

What have I been up to lately...very top secret...but I can let you know now.. 5 days, some up a ladder, one stick at a time, landscape inspired, willow leaves or the all seeing Big Bro Eye. The Nest is a little shingle covered pod situated in the Big Brother garden which is at Ellstree Studios, London. Markus Blee, who designs the set, invited me to weave the interior. Thanks to Dave at West Wales Willows, Wolfscastle for a lovey selection af coloured willows and to Michael and Ellen Musgrove of Musgroves Somerset for their green stuff too. When I get some photos from Endemol I will let you see otherwise watch the show for the full effect...if you really must...

Twisted Hedge

Hi all, I am discovering blogging and have started my own called Twisted Hedge. It's good practice and a diary/sketchbook/collection of all the creative stuff I am concerned with right now. Take a look. Follow, follow. I have been busy with making and designing plus a lot of planting and harvesting. Just about to begin a few sculptures which I hope to work in tandem until they are done ready for showing in June. I am working with Willow House Company too aka Sophie and Nathalie at Manor Farm zoo place. They are creating some living willow domes in time for Easter and I am weaving some animal heads to go on top. Which reminds me I must soak some willow! And weave. I just had an inspiring day out in Swansea and visited the Mission Gallery which is one of my fave places down there and on the way back popped in to Oriel Myrddin in Carmarthen. Oriel Myrddin's show Reap and Sow was very nice lots of interesting crafty things from aprons to pots to a delightful miniture ceramic townscape. I love looking around galleries. Even quickly with five minutes to go. Michelle.
